거미의 기상천외한 사냥술 조망성 거미는 소극적인 사냥술을 보완할 수 있는 사냥의 기술을 발전시켜왔다. 긴호랑거미는 거미줄로 흰 띠를 만들어 거미줄을 장식한다. 거미줄의 흰 띠 장식은 아이러니컬하지만 자외선으로 물체를 보는 곤충은 흰 띠를 활짝 핀 꽃으로 착각하여 그것에 유혹되는 것. 이밖에도 폭발적으로 많은 거미줄을 분출해 먹이를 감싸버리는 싸개띠, 거미줄에 묻어있는 끈끈한 점성물질과, 신경마비 성분이 있는 거미독은 조망성 거미가 발전시켜온 사냥의 메커니즘이다.
