◈새들이 말하는 ‘多多益善’은? 새들도 뭉쳐야 산다. 이화여대 환경공학과 이상돈 교수팀은 11~12월 강원 철원군에 찾아오는 겨울 철새인 두루미와 재두루미를 관찰한 결과 집단 내 종의 숫자가 많은 쪽을 선호한다는 사실을 발표했다. 여러 종이 많은 집단에 있으면 좀 더 안전하다고 느끼기 때문에 주변을 경계할 필요성이 없다. 그래서 먹이를 먹는데 시간을 더 많이 보낸다고 나타났다. 이 같은 결과는 국제 저널인 ‘생태연구’ 11월8일자에 실렸다.
