몸길이 약 33cm이다. 온몸이 잿빛이 도는 갈색이며 목 뒷면에는 좁은 검정색 띠가 있다. 첫째날개깃털은 나머지 깃털의 빛깔과 대조적으로 검정색이며 날 때 눈에 띈다. 가운데꽁지깃털은 검정색, 바깥꽁지깃털은 흰색이다. 꽁지 아랫면은 검정색이고 끝에는 넓은 흰색 띠가 있다.
영국·중근동·인도·중국·한국·일본 등 유라시아대륙의 서유럽에서 동아시아에 이르는 넓은 지역에 번식한다. 한국에서도 한때 전국에 걸쳐 널리 분포하였으나 지금은 수가 매우 줄어들어 진귀한 존재가 되고 말았다. 서해 도서와 홍도에 적은 수가 서식하고 있으나 정확한 실태는 아직 조사된 바 없다. |

| Eurasian Collared Dove, Streptopelia decaocto, also called the Eurasian Collared-Dove or simply the Collared Dove, is one of the great colonisers of the avian world. Its original range was warmer temperate regions from southeastern Europe to Japan. However, in the twentieth century it expanded across the rest of Europe, reaching as far west as Great Britain by 1953, and Ireland soon after. It also now breeds north of the Arctic Circle in Scandinavia. It is not migratory. |
