◈ 수컷 쥐의 남성성은 눈물(?) 쥐는 시력이 거의 없다. 그런데 어떻게 암수가 서로를 알아보고 짝짓기를 할까? 수컷 쥐가 흘리는 눈물이 열쇠. 수컷 쥐의 눈물에는 암컷 쥐가 인지하는 성 페로몬이 함유되어 있다는 것이 최근 밝혀졌다. 페로몬은 동종의 개체에 인식되어 행동이나 생리에 영향을 주는 물질로 본능적 행동이나 감정을 조절하는 뇌의 과정을 거치지 않고 몸으로 인지되는 특징이 있다. 그런데 자웅의 쥐를 관찰해 보면 얼굴을 서로 부딪히는 행동을 볼 수 있다. 이러한 행동을 통해 암컷이 수컷의 눈물샘으로부터 분비된 페로몬을 감지하고 수컷을 구별하는 것이다.
