Squaretail coralgrouper, Plectropomus areolatus, is a ray-finned fish species from the family of serranidae (Serranidae). The scientific name of the species was first published in 1830 by Ruppell. The species is on the IUCN Red List as Vulnerable, assessment year 2008. The IUCN according to the size of the population is decreasing.
