The shy bushbuck, although small and elegant, is a robust animal. It feeds at night, browsing on leaves, tender shoots and acacia pods. During the heat of the day, the bushbuck hides in dense bush, where it remains immobile for hours on end. Western bushbucks usually live singly or in pairs, although mothers and their young may sometimes form loose, communal groups.
