The UK's population of greater horseshoe bats originated from western Asia about 40,000 - 60,000 years ago, according to researcher Dr Jon Flanders. The findings are the culmination of the UK's first landscape-scale study into bats, launched by the National Trust and University of Bristol in 2005.
