Wild Cattle
That’s no cow, but a young gaur ??? a species of wild cattle native to Asia.
The gaur in the picture resides at the Bronx Zoo’s Wild Asia exhibit.
In the wild, gaur populations have been greatly reduced due to hunting and loss of tropical forests and savannas, and are now restricted to isolated herds in India and Southeast Asia.
Full-grown males can weigh over a ton and stand more than seven feet tall at the shoulder. Adult gaur have few natural predators ??? except for the tiger, which can occasionally take down mature bulls.
