Vibrant plumage

South Asia is home to at least one third of the world's pheasant population, including some of the most colourful birds on earth.
Campaigners say many are in danger because of hunting and changes in habitat. Perhaps the most famous member of the pheasant family is the Indian Peafowl which is the National Bird of India.

Like other pheasants, it moved from its Himalayan homeland into south India and Sri Lanka long before human beings did. (Photos: World Pheasant Association)
