I saw this bird in my backyard one morning. It sat there for about an
hour, watching the ground. Does anyone know what it is? (I'm a cat
person, not a bird person) Thanks for any info.

This is a Broad-Winged Hawk I believe.

You got yourself a couple nice photos of a Red-shouldered Hawk.
It is one of the bolder species of Buteos (broad-winged soaring hawks).
They will occasionally even splash around in backyard birdbaths.
