Hi, Raymond,

sorry for the silly question, but: are you sure this is a nest? I have
seen cololy-forming mushrooms which look very similar to the sub-units
the "thing" seems to be formed of. Though, a colony almost spherical
like this one would be highly unusual.

If it is really a nest you'd better remember Sigourney Weaver's crew ...
be careful when approaching :-)

Nest is that of some species of paper wasp or hornet, DO NOT DISTURB!
99%+ of these insects STING!
