First blood with Fuji Superia 100 - Big Red stalking the meadows - Maned wolf in Wilhelma Zoo

Hi guys and gals,

if you wanna bring home plenty of maned wolf pics, you'd better go
anywhere but Wilhelma Zoo, Stuttgart (Germany). The red ones hide most
of the day, posing for a picture just every now and then. But if they
appear, they provide nice red-and-green compositions with a lot of
contrast to them.

BTW, this is my very first scan of a picture taken with Fuji Superia
100? color negative film - as you may know, I've been into shooting 400?
stuff for most of the time because my old 100-300 Zoom lens at 1/5.6
required the sensitive stuff. After buying a (used) Canon 300mm "L" lens
with image stabilizer and 1/4 of aperture in December 2000, I all of a
sudden found the 400? stuff to be the limiting factor. With the new lens
being twice as sensitive due to the 1/4 and at least two times longer
shutter times being usable with the image stabilizer, I thought 100?
might be worth a try. I tried Fuji Sensia 100? slide stuff which my
scanner turned out to be unable to get decent shadows out. Now, Superia
100 seems to be an excellent compromise, being almost as fine grained as
slide film and right on the money for what my scanner can do with it.
And, it is a lot cheaper than the 400? or slide material! I am pretty
excited about having expanded my possibilities this way and shall
hopefully bring you many more pictures during the weeks to come.

So long -

Ralf

Little Rock Zoo in Arkansas is a good place. Just avoid Memphis if your looking for foxes. They only had a kit fox when I went there, but I didn't get to see it....
