Description		아프리카코끼리 Loxodonta africana (African Elephant) 아프리카코끼리 Elephas africana 코끼리과에 딸린 동물. 일반적으로 피부의 색깔이 어두우며 귀가 커서 어깨를 덮는다. 인도코끼리보다 훨씬 커서 어깨 높이 3.3m이상, 몸무게 6톤에 달한다. 성이 나면 직각을 일어서서 위대하게 보인다. 앞발에는 4개, 뒷발에는 3개의 발굽이 있고 암수 모두 잘 발달된 상아가 있다. 떼지어 생활하나 수컷은 혼자 산다. 사하라 사막 이남의 아프리카 밀림지대에 널리 분포한다. 출처: 동물형태도감 (계몽사, 1993년)
