Description		(P:\Africa\Canine) Index.gif (0/1) (51 K) A few shots of what I think is a grey fox, if I remember. Maybe a black fox. Kenya and Tanzania, Summer 2000. Scanned from 6x4 prints of 35mm film with a not-too-good scanner. Released to the Public Domain, but I would appriciate hearing about commercial use of the photos. -- Darren New.

The Black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas) is an African canine with a fox-like appearance, tan fur, and a thick stripe of black and silver running down its back. They weigh anywhere from 15 to 30 pounds and are 45 to 50 centimeters at the shoulder. Males are usually larger than females.
