The African civet is the largest member of the subfamily of true civets, linsangs and genets, but with a tail only half its body length. It lives in all types of habitat, from dry savanna to tropical rain forest. Unlike most of its relatives, it does not climb trees, foraging on the ground for food through the night and sleeping in burrows by day.
