Caspian stripe-necked terrapins live mainly in dry terrain in southeast Europe and southwest Asia. They collect around almost any available stretch of water, from small ponds and marshes to slow-flowing rivers and lakes, and can tolerate salty or even polluted water. If all the water in one area dries up, the terrapins become dormant until the next rains come.
