Record sunfish, Santa Catalina Island, too heavy to weigh, estimated at 2500 pounds [See: Sun Fish caught by Geo Farnsworth, Girth 9 ft. 9 ft. long, Weight 1,500 lbs, Catalina Isl., July 27, 1903. On that photograph the fish hangs next to the same pavilion from the same rack on top of which a sign informs about the location: boatman Harry Elms' place at the gravel beach of the Avalon Bay in Avalon, California, USA.
