Description | Banded Malayan coral snake (Calliophis intestinalis)
The banded Malaysian coral snake (Calliophis intestinalis) is a small, nocturnal, and highly venomous elapid snake found in Southeast Asia, characterized by its slender body, small head and vibrant colour patterns, which include a reddish-orange vertebral stripe bordered in black, a black flank stripe and a white ventral surface with evenly spaced black bands. Its most distinctive features are the contrasting black and white underside and the bright red, black-banded tail, which it often displays when threatened to warn predators of its dangerous neurotoxic venom. | |
