The lesser bulldog bat Is an insect eater that occurs in Central and South America. It usually hunts close to water and sometimes supplements its diet with small fish. Its close relative, the greater bulldog bat, preys almost exclusively on fish. Both species track the movements of fish in the water by detecting surface ripples using echolocation. The bat then dives into the water, lowers its hind feet and stabs its prey with its long claws. The victim is taken to a nearby perch and devoured.
