The Indian rhinoceros lives in wet, swampy places, where it often wallows in mud. When dried, the mud covering may keep biting flies at bay. The rhino has a flexible, prehensile upper lip, with which it grabs tall vegetation when it is browsing. Indian rhinos use their horns as offensive weapons, charging head-down at intruders.
