Small populations of Asian wild asses inhabit the dry regions of Central Asia, where they roam far and wide in search of pasture. Asian wild asses are strict vegetarians, with diets that consist almost entirely of grass. Unlike domestic asses, they are fleet-footed animals with a running power to match that of horses. Their speed is vital for escape from wolves - their chief enemies on the open grasslands.
