The common birdwing (Troides helena) is a butterfly belonging to the family Papilionidae. It is often found in the wildlife trade due to its popularity with butterfly collectors. Troides helena is widely distributed and locally common in forest areas. Globally it is found in Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, peninsular and eastern Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Laos, Kampuchea, Thailand, Vietnam, southern China including Hainan, and Hong Kong.

Troides helena, also called Common Birdwing is a butterfly from Australasia / Indomalaya ecozone (Australia). The first description was in 1758 by Linnaeus. The wingspan is about 13 – 17 cm. This butterfly is a member of the family PAPILIONIDAE. Troides helena is black. The hind wings are golden. The females are dark-brown and larger than the males. They have black spots on their hind wings.
