The false gharial (Tomistoma schlegelii ), also known as Malayan gharial, Sunda gharial and Tomistoma, is a freshwater crocodilian native to Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra and Java. The specific name schlegelii honors the German herpetologist Hermann Schlegel.
