Description
Español: Lophornis ornatus, la coqueta adornada o coqueta abanico canela.
Ave apodiforme de la familia de los colibríes que vive en el norte de Sudamérica. La coqueta adornada mide de 6,8 a 7 cm de largo y pesa entre 2,3 y 2,8 g. El macho es bastante llamativo. Es principalmente de color verde brillante con una cresta rojiza y una banda horizontal blanca en el obispillo que puede verse durante el vuelo. Adornan los laterales de su cuello largas plumas de color canela con motas negras y su cola es de color bronce. Las hembras carecen de cresta y de las largas plumas del cuello. La coqueta adornada cría en el este de Venezuela, Guyana, el norte de Brasil e isla Trinidad. Esta especie prefiere los espacios abiertos y puede encontrarse en plantaciones y jardines. Se alimenta de néctar de flores e insectos. La hembra de coqueta adornada pone dos huevos en un pequeño nido en forma de cuenco.
En la Lista Roja de especies amenazadas de la UICN 2011.

The tufted coquette (Lophornis ornatus) is a tiny hummingbird that breeds in eastern Venezuela, Trinidad, Guiana, and northern Brazil. It is an uncommon but widespread species, and appears to be a local or seasonal migrant, although its movements are not well understood.
