We found one in CA. I took it to our local university's entomology dept. and was told it is a jumping spider. They are not poisonous, but may bite. |

I found a few after we moved into our house in Central Florida. That was in 2003, and this is the first time I have ever seen it on the internet. The cool thing about it to me was that if you approached it would raise up its head and upper body and spread out its first to pair of legs like a kung fu master. |

Found one crawling out of my truck the other day. Scared the crap out of me. Took a pic of it since it looked so strange. The face on the back was yellow. When I leaned my camera down to take the pic, it shot it's web about 6 inches in the air and caught itself on my camera. Freaked me out even more. |

Portland, Oregon. Went to squish it with a handful of tissues, but when I lifted the tissues it wasn't there. ACK! It must be quick. Where did it go? And is it mad at me now? Creeped out big time. |

I found this exact same spider in my back yard in Ohio! They are supposed to only be on the west coast around California, Oregon, and Washington, but they seem to have traveled from their region. I spoke with an insect expert who said the spider is a "Cross Spider" from the Orb Weaver family of spiders. They are NOT poisonous at all!!! But they can cause a nasty bite, which can form a rash and swelling. And like with all spider bites it can easily become infected! If you are bitten you should keep the wound very clean, and if it gets worse you should seek medical attention immediately!!! All insects carry bacteria, and it is very important to keep an eye on insect bites, especially spiders and ticks. I hope this helps. |
