DOBERMAN PINSCHER
The Doberman Pinscher was developed in Germany in the late 1800's by Louis
Doberman. He wanted an aristocratic, noble looking dog with great agility,
strength and intelligence. He used Rottweiler stock, the smooth haired German
Pinscher, the Black and Tan Terrier and old shepherd dog until he reached his
goal. In America, the ears are usually cropped to make them stand erect which
is supposed to give them a more threatening look, one of the reasons the
Doberman is a much maligned breed. In reality, a well-bred Doberman makes an
excellent companion dog. He is intelligent, loyal, and learns quickly. It is
these qualities that have made him so useful in police work and war. For the
last ten years it has ranked among the most popular AKC breeds. This interest is
due to the Dobe's innate good nature and its trainability.
