10. Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) _________________________________

A large bird, almost 4 feet tall. I often see them when I walk
along the sound ... when they take flight, they utter a loud
raucous call while lifting off with large, slowly beating wings.

I have on occasion woken to see one standing in one of the trees
in the wooded lot across the road ... always surprises me, as
these birds just don't look like they should be standing in the
trees.
