One night I woke up and heard something in my room! I clicked on the light
and poked around until I saw this strange, rodent-like creature with bug
eyes staring at me in paralyzed fear, in the middle of my bedroom floor! I
had no idea what it was, and it quickly disappeared. The next day my
boyfriend found it spread-eagled in the furnace air filter (luckily it was
nice weather so neither heat or a/c was on).

Apparently a strong wind storm had blown him into our attic through a vent,
and then he had found an opening into the air vents. I guess when he dived
back into my vent, it was a quick trip down to the filter! (many of our
vents have no grills to increase air circulation in the house)

Anyway, I snapped a quick picture of him on our wooden fence after we let
him out of the filter. I had no idea flying squirrels were native to my
area! (Northern Virginia)
