The Red bellied piranha (Pygocentrus nattereri syn. Serrasalmus nattereri) is a species of piranha. The species lives in the Amazon River Basin in Brazil, like most species of Piranha.
In the aquarium
Piranha, despite their fearsome reputation, can be kept as aquarium fish. Though their diet in nature consists exclusively of live prey, they readily eat other food as well. red-bellied piranhas can grow to be 12" long they will eat any fish no matter what size in their tank. They need a 29 gallon + fishtank.
