Description
Escape from the Dark is a 1976 British drama film directed by Charles Jarrott and starring Alastair Sim and Peter Barkworth. A Walt Disney Productions film, it was retitled The Littlest Horse Thieves when released to the US on 11 March 1977. Set in a mining town in Yorkshire, the film is about a company that plans to use machines instead of horses to get coal. A group of children intervene to attempt a rescue of the horses when they are to be killed, but after they are caught, the authorities must decide what to do about the horses. When the owner of a Yorkshire coal-mine decides to mechanize to increase profits, the mine's pit ponies are scheduled to be destroyed. So, three children plan to steal them to keep them safe. But when they're caught, it's up to the mine owners and the miners themselves to decide what's right.
